Opportunities to join the Baskar Group.
We are always looking for curious, self-driven people who want to work at the intersection of simulation science, machine learning, and real-world problems in food, energy, environment, and health. The group is collaborative and cross-disciplinary, and our graduates go on to national laboratories, industry, and faculty positions (see the alumni wall).
Current openings
- 1 to 2 PhD students starting in the next academic year, to work on scientific machine learning, high performance simulation, or cyber-agricultural systems.
- A back-end HPC and GPU engineer to build and scale the group’s simulation and AI software on modern GPU clusters.
Who should apply
- PhD applicants: a strong background in one or more of applied mathematics, computational science, mechanical or aerospace engineering, computer science, or a related field, together with solid programming skills. Prior exposure to numerical methods, machine learning, or scientific computing is a plus, not a requirement.
- HPC and GPU engineer: strong software engineering skills, experience with C++ and Python, GPU programming (CUDA or similar), and parallel or distributed computing. A research background is welcome but not required.
How to reach us
Prospective PhD students should apply to the relevant Iowa State University graduate program and mention their interest in the Baskar Group in their application. For all inquiries, including the HPC and GPU engineer role, email Baskar Ganapathysubramanian at baskarg [at] iastate.edu, or reach him through his Iowa State profile. A short note about your background and what draws you to the group’s work goes a long way.
